Job Description
Trafford Council is seeking an experienced Adults Social Worker to join the Trafford Safeguarding Hub, based at Talbot Road, Manchester (M32 0TH). This is a locum contract running from 31 August to 18 December 2026, paying £30 per hour.
You will take a lead role in safeguarding adults at risk, applying Section 42 of the Care Act 2014 to referrals and determining appropriate responses. Duties include assessing mental capacity, managing a caseload of active safeguarding cases, and working within a multi-agency framework alongside health professionals and partner agencies. A duty element forms part of the role, requiring office attendance at Trafford Town Hall for two days per week, with a fully office-based induction period of two weeks at the outset.
Candidates must be able to become operational quickly and bring strong safeguarding knowledge and experience at Level 3 Social Worker level, including demonstrable experience of managing Section 42 enquiries. Knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, Mental Health Act 1983, and Human Rights Act 1998 is required.
Essential requirements: a recognised social work qualification (CQSW, CSS, DipSW, or Degree in Social Work), current registration with Social Work England, and a full driving licence. An enhanced DBS with Adults barred list check is required. Three years of references will be sought and gaps in employment history will be verified.
