Job Description

Powys County Council is seeking a qualified Approved Mental Health Practitioner (AMHP) to join their Mental Health Services team, based at Ladywell House, Newtown, Powys (SY16 1EG). This is a locum opportunity paying between £35.78 and £47.00 per hour, starting 17 August 2026.

Powys is a large, predominantly rural county in mid-Wales, and this role will require travel across a wide geographical area. The description includes a travel-time matrix between key towns across Powys — from Brecon and Builth Wells in the south to Welshpool and Llanfyllin in the north — indicating that the successful candidate must be comfortable working across dispersed communities and managing significant travel as part of their caseload.

Applicants must hold a current AMHP qualification and be registered with Social Work England or an equivalent regulatory body. Experience of working in a rural or geographically challenging environment would be advantageous.
