Job Description
An opportunity has arisen for a Fostering Support Worker with Wigan Council’s fostering service, based in Wigan, Greater Manchester. This is a temporary post running from 3 August to 16 September 2026, paying £13.77 per hour PAYE (£17.64 per hour umbrella).
You will support Kinship Foster Carers and prospective Special Guardians to enable children to remain safely within friends and family networks where they cannot live with their parents. You will prioritise safeguarding and stability, ensure practice is regulatory compliant, and maintain a child-focused approach to improving outcomes for children and young people.
Key responsibilities include contributing to carer assessments and annual reviews, attending Foster Panel, planning meetings and case conferences, maintaining accurate records, providing written reports, and working flexibly with partner agencies and the local community. You may also be required to transport and supervise contact and accompany children to appointments.
Applicants must hold a relevant qualification such as NNEB, BTEC in Nursery Nursing, NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and Education, NVQ Level 3 in Children and Young People, or Health and Social Care Level 3 (Children and Young People). A sound knowledge of fostering regulations, National Minimum Standards, Care Planning Regulations, and childcare theory and practice is essential.
