Job Description
Wakefield Families Together is seeking an experienced Senior Social Worker to join its Locality Child Protection Team on a temporary basis from 13 July to 30 October 2026, based in Wakefield (WF1 4NB) at £35 per hour.
This is a substantive statutory role carrying a complex caseload from referral through to permanence planning. You will complete Child and Family Assessments, manage Child in Need and Child Protection plans, undertake Pre-Birth Assessments, and progress cases through the Public Law Outline process where threshold is met. Court work forms a significant part of the role — you will prepare evidence-based statements and reports and initiate and manage care proceedings in partnership with legal services and multi-agency professionals.
Key responsibilities include conducting robust risk assessments and making timely, analytically sound decisions in line with statutory guidance; chairing and contributing to professional meetings, strategy discussions, and legal planning meetings; and maintaining accurate, up-to-date case recordings to organisational and statutory standards.
The successful candidate will hold a recognised social work qualification, be registered with Social Work England, and bring demonstrable experience in child protection, court work, and statutory assessment. Experience working within the PLO framework and care proceedings is essential.
If you are an experienced children’s social worker ready to make a meaningful difference in a busy locality team, please get in touch today.
