Job Description

A Senior Social Worker is required for the Isle of Wight Council’s Support and Protection Team, based at County Hall, Newport, Isle of Wight (PO30 1UD). This is a locum position paying £31.50–£42.00 per hour via Prism, starting 12 August 2026.

The role involves providing a high-quality, effective social work service to children, young people, and their families within statutory guidelines. Key responsibilities include assessing need, planning and delivering focused intervention to safeguard children, and promoting positive outcomes. You will also champion equality, treating all individuals with fairness and dignity, and maintain a flexible, generic skill set that can be deployed across the Council and its formal partnerships as operational needs require.

Applicants must be qualified social workers registered with Social Work England, with demonstrable experience in children and families work, particularly within a support and protection or child protection context. Experience of statutory assessment and intervention is essential.
