Job Description
Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a qualified and experienced Childrens CIC Placement Tracker Officer to support a specialist placement review function within children’s services. This is a stand-alone, project-style role focused on improving outcomes and driving cost-effective placement decisions for children and young people in high-cost residential care.
Working alongside operational social workers and managers, you will review cohorts of children in residential placements, analyse care plans and placement histories, and identify opportunities for improved permanency planning — including transitions from residential care to fostering where appropriate. You will produce detailed reports and evidence-based recommendations, utilise management information to identify trends and risks, and provide professional challenge to placement decision-making processes.
Essential requirements include qualified social worker status with current Social Work England registration, demonstrable experience with Children Looked After and care planning, and a strong understanding of residential care, fostering, and placement commissioning. Experience in quality assurance, audit, practice improvement, or reviewing activity is required, as is the ability to analyse complex data and produce high-quality written assessments.
Desirable experience includes previous roles as a Social Work Manager, Practice Improvement Lead, Quality Assurance Officer, Reviewing Officer, or Social Work Trainer, along with knowledge of the Mosaic case management system.
Based at Westgate Plaza One, Barnsley. Rate: £40 per hour. Contract: August 2026 to February 2027. Apply now to be considered.
