Job Description
Manchester City Council is seeking an experienced Childrens Social Worker to join the Advice and Guidance Service — the front door of Children’s Services in Manchester. Based at Etrop Court, Wythenshawe (M22), this is a temporary role running from 24 August to 28 November 2026, paying £35 per hour via XMS.
This is a pivotal screening and safeguarding role. Using David Thorpe’s Conversational Model, you will engage directly with children, families, and professionals to screen contacts, assess levels of need, identify risk and protective factors, and determine the most appropriate interventions. You will work at pace in a fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities while maintaining high professional standards.
You will work closely with co-located Family Help Social Work Teams and Early Help Services, contributing to effective multi-agency collaboration and ensuring families receive timely, responsive support.
Candidates must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England, with a minimum of three years’ statutory social work experience. Experience in an Advice and Guidance or MASH setting is required. Strong analytical, assessment, communication, planning, and multi-agency working skills are essential.
Please note: suppliers must complete the DfE Recommendation Compliance Questions and attach the completed file to the candidate record prior to submission. Applications without this will not progress. Five years’ references and employment history checks are required.
If you meet the above criteria and are available from late August 2026, please get in touch today.
