Job Description

Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Adults Advanced Practitioner to join its Adult Social Care service, based at 2 Alice Square, Birkenhead (CH41 2YA). This is a hybrid role offering £29.76–£38.38 per hour, available from 17 August 2026.

This senior practice role carries lead responsibility for complex, high-risk casework involving safeguarding adults, mental capacity assessments, Court of Protection proceedings, and multi-agency protection planning. You will manage a caseload of the most complex cases, chair adult protection meetings, authorise and quality-assure assessments and court documentation, and support practitioners across the service to develop their safeguarding skills and practice standards.

Key responsibilities include: leading on cases involving high levels of risk and complexity; supporting and mentoring practitioners; acting as Practice Educator and Best Interest Assessor; contributing to service and case reviews; and driving improvements in recording, risk management, and protection planning.

Essential requirements: a recognised Social Work qualification (Degree or DipSW), current Social Work England registration, Best Interest Assessor trained, and substantial post-qualifying experience in statutory adult or children’s social care. A management qualification and practice educator award are desirable.
