Job Description

Knowsley Borough Council is seeking an experienced Adults Advanced Practitioner to drive practice development and service improvement across adult social care. Based at Municipal Buildings, Kirkby (L32 1TX), this is a pivotal leadership role offering £28.00–£36.82 per hour, commencing 4 August 2026.

You will provide professional supervision and leadership to Social Workers and Social Care Co-ordinators, take a lead role on complex and high-risk cases, and champion a culture of continuous learning and quality improvement. Key responsibilities include delivering reflective and group supervision, undertaking quality assurance audits of assessments, support plans and case files, supporting ASYEs and students on placement, and contributing to multi-agency meetings including MARAMs and best interests meetings.

You will embed legal literacy across the team with particular reference to the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and Mental Health Act 2007, and work alongside the Principal Social Worker and Safeguarding Quality Improvement Service to respond to the quality assurance framework. Advanced Practitioners aligned to the AMHP function must hold AMHP qualification and registration. There is also a commitment to undertake the Best Interest Assessor (BIA) qualification and at least one further specialist qualification.

Candidates must be qualified Social Workers registered with Social Work England, with substantial post-qualifying experience in adults’ services and demonstrable skills in supervision, complex case management, and practice improvement.
