Job Description
Darlington Borough Council is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Family Support Worker to join its Children in Care teams, based at the Town Hall, Darlington (DL1 5QT). This is a temporary role paying £17.82 per hour, available from 26 July 2026.
Working alongside qualified social workers, foster carers, residential providers, and partner agencies, you will deliver practical and relationship-based support to children and young people in care. Your focus will be on helping children maintain stability within their placements, strengthening relationships with carers and family members where appropriate, and ensuring children’s voices are heard in planning and decision-making.
Key responsibilities include undertaking direct work with children, supporting family time arrangements, assisting with life story and identity work, and addressing emerging issues before they escalate into placement disruption. Through timely intervention and consistent relationship-based practice, you will play a vital role in preventing placement breakdowns and improving outcomes for children in care.
This is an unqualified social care role; a formal social work qualification is not required. To apply or find out more, please get in touch with the team today.
