Job Description
Thurrock Council is seeking an experienced Childrens Social Worker to join the Child and Family Assessment Team based in Grays, Essex. This is a busy, front-line duty-style role supporting children and families in times of crisis, managing risk and promoting the wellbeing of vulnerable children across Thurrock.
Working as part of a duty team, you will respond to referrals risk-assessed by the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH), completing initial visits independently and alongside police colleagues to implement safety plans. You will manage caseloads of children and unborn children subject to Child and Family Assessments, making threshold decisions informed by the Thurrock Threshold Document and completing short-term family interventions to connect families with appropriate support services.
Key responsibilities include undertaking Child Protection Enquiries under Section 47 of the Children Act 1989, preparing and presenting Child Protection Conference Reports, and completing creative direct work with children and adults to understand their views and effect meaningful change. Where ongoing support is required, you will chair multi-agency meetings including Child in Need and Core Group meetings, and create and review SMART plans. You will also provide evidence-based analysis of significant harm to inform decisions in both public and private law proceedings.
Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. This is a locum position based on-site in Grays, RM17 6SL, paying £177.48–£238.54 per day.
