Job Description

An experienced Childrens Advanced Practitioner is sought to join Durham County Council’s Families First Team based at Ferryhill One Point Hub, DL17 8AN. This is a Social Work Consultant role embedded within a leadership team, offering rewarding and varied work with children and families in need of help and protection.

As Social Work Consultant you will partner with the Team Manager to oversee a team delivering meaningful outcomes for vulnerable children, whilst championing a nurturing learning culture rooted in relational, strengths-based and trauma-aware practice. You will drive excellent, research-evidenced practice across the team, develop the skills of frontline social care practitioners, and build strong multi-agency working relationships.

Key responsibilities include:
– Supporting and developing frontline practitioners through expert consultancy and coaching
– Maintaining and championing specialist knowledge in work with children and families
– Contributing to a leadership team focused on improved outcomes for children
– Building effective partnerships with colleagues across a wide range of agencies

Applicants must hold a recognised Social Work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. The role is offered on a locum basis at £35.45 per hour, commencing 26 July 2026.
