Job Description

Barnet Council is seeking a qualified Adults Social Worker to join its Adults and Communities service, based in Colindale, London (NW9 4EW). This is a temporary role paying £176.25–£243.31 per day via Prism, starting 30 July 2026.

You will deliver high-quality social work to adults and carers under the Care Act 2014, conducting comprehensive assessments for older people, adults with physical, sensory, or learning disabilities, and their carers. Working within a strengths-based and enablement framework, you will develop personalised, outcomes-led care and support plans that maximise independence and minimise long-term care costs.

Key responsibilities include Mental Capacity Act assessments, safeguarding enquiries applying Making Safeguarding Personal principles, risk assessments, direct payments advice, and liaison with CCGs, Hospital Trusts, and voluntary sector partners. You will manage an allocated caseload, chair reviews, and maintain accurate records on the Council’s case management systems. Where trained and competent, you may act as a Best Interest Assessor under DoLS.

You will also provide supervision and professional support to Assessment and Enablement Officers and contribute to service development and CPD.

Essential: Social Work England registration; CQSW, DipSW, or equivalent; experience in adults social work; knowledge of the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, and national eligibility frameworks. Accredited BIA status is desirable.
