Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Childrens Senior Practitioner to join Birmingham Children’s Trust within the Family Help Service based in Ladywood, Birmingham (B6 4DU). This is a temporary agency role paying £24.51–£33.29 per hour, available from 20 July 2026.
The Family Help Service operates an integrated, multidisciplinary model designed to deliver the right support at the right time, reducing service fragmentation and providing early, targeted, and statutory intervention within local communities. You will hold a diverse caseload encompassing Child in Need (Section 17), pre-proceedings/Public Law Outline, and step-up cases requiring safeguarding oversight.
Key responsibilities include completing high-quality statutory assessments (Children & Families Assessments, risk assessments, and safety plans), direct work with children to capture the voice of the child, developing and reviewing CIN plans in partnership with families and multi-agency professionals, and chairing or contributing to CIN meetings, Team Around the Family meetings, and core groups. You will work collaboratively with schools, health, police, and voluntary sector partners, maintaining audit-ready case recording in line with statutory timescales.
Candidates must hold a Degree in Social Work (or equivalent), be registered with Social Work England, and have demonstrable experience in children’s statutory settings — ideally within Family Help, Early Help, or CIN teams. A strengths-based, trauma-informed approach and the ability to engage resistant families are essential.
If you are an experienced qualified social worker ready to make an impact in a progressive, integrated service, please get in touch today.
