Job Description

Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Adults Social Worker to join their Adult Social Care service based in Birkenhead (CH41 2YA). This is a hybrid interim role paying £27.98–£36.08 per hour via Prism, with a start date of 10 August 2026.

You will hold a caseload of adults with complex physical health, mental health, and older-people needs, carrying out strengths-based needs assessments, care and support planning, and safeguarding enquiries under the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005, and associated legislation. Day-to-day work includes multi-disciplinary assessments, chairing strategy meetings and professional case conferences, completing funding applications, and contributing to the prevention of unnecessary hospital admissions.

The role sits within an integrated MDT reporting to a Team Manager or Advanced Practitioner. You will work to Social Work England standards, applying the Professional Capabilities Framework and Wirral’s Personalisation and Inclusion Pathways.

Required: Social Work degree (DipSW or equivalent), Social Work England registration, completion of ASYE plus a minimum of two years’ post-qualifying experience in adult social care, and proven experience of safeguarding enquiries and complex-needs work. Desirable: Best Interest Assessor training and Practice Educator award.
