Job Description
Herefordshire Council is seeking a dedicated Childrens Social Worker to join its Children with Disabilities Team — a single, close-knit team comprising a Team Manager, two Managing Practitioners, a Senior Practitioner, Social Workers, and Family Support Workers.
This is a permanent, full-time post (37 hours) based in Hereford, offering a salary of £36,363–£40,777 per annum plus a £5,000 market rate supplement (effective range £41,363–£45,777), a £10,000 welcome payment, retention payments of £2,000–£4,000, and a relocation package of up to £10,000.
You will work directly with children and young people who have a range of additional needs, completing holistic assessments, coordinating multi-agency support, and building trusting relationships with families and partners across health, education, and social care. The team’s restorative, person-centred approach places the child’s voice at the centre of all practice, with senior managers always available for guidance on complex cases.
Candidates must be registered with Social Work England and hold a recognised social work qualification (Degree, DipSW, or CQSW). In return, Herefordshire offers protected CPD time and budget, clear career progression pathways, 31 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays, LGPS enrolment, flexible and agile working options, and an Employee Assistance Programme.
Herefordshire is working alongside Leeds City Council as its improvement partner — an exciting time to join and help shape the next chapter. Contact RecruitmentCYPD@herefordshire.gov.uk for an informal discussion.
