Job Description

Herefordshire Council is seeking a passionate and dedicated qualified Social Worker to join its Family Help North Locality team, based in Leominster. This is a permanent, full-time post (37 hours per week) offering a salary of £36,363 – £40,777 per annum, plus a £5,000 market rate supplement, bringing the total package to £41,363 – £45,777. A £10,000 welcome payment and a relocation package of up to £10,000 are also available.

In this locality-based role you will act as Family Help Lead Practitioner, managing a complex caseload of children and families with Family Help plans. You will assess needs and risks, develop tailored Family Help Plans, chair and contribute to Child in Need meetings, core groups, and strategy discussions, and undertake safeguarding and child protection work in partnership with the Multi-Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT). Court work and high-quality report writing are also key requirements.

Herefordshire operates a restorative approach to social work, with strong management support, protected CPD time, clear career progression pathways, and Ofsted-recognised outstanding leadership. Applicants must hold a Social Work degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent and hold current Social Work England registration. Experience in a statutory children and families setting, with sound knowledge of safeguarding, child protection, and the Children Act 1989 and 2004, is essential.
