Childrens Social Worker – Family Help Team – #OR107083

July 1, 2026
£24 - £33 / hour

Job Description

Herefordshire Council is seeking a qualified Social Worker to join its Family Help locality team in Hereford, rated ‘Outstanding Leadership’ by Ofsted. This is a 3-month contract (with extension potential), 37 hours per week, paying £30.57 per hour.

Working within a restorative, locality-based model, you will hold a complex caseload as Family Help Lead Practitioner, supporting children, young people, and their families to achieve safe and sustainable outcomes. You will assess needs, develop Family Help Plans, and work in close partnership with the Multi-Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT) where safeguarding concerns arise. Key duties include chairing and contributing to Child in Need meetings, core groups, and strategy discussions, as well as undertaking risk assessments, court report writing, and coordinating multi-agency support.

The team culture is firmly grounded in restorative practice, with senior managers consistently available for reflection and support on complex cases. Collaboration is central to how the service operates.

Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification (Social Work Degree, DipSW, or CQSW equivalent), be currently registered with Social Work England, and have a minimum of 3 years’ post-qualifying experience in statutory children and families settings. Strong assessment skills, confidence in safeguarding and child protection, and the ability to produce high-quality records and reports are essential.
