Job Description

The London Borough of Bexley is seeking a Social Care Assistant to join their Adult Social Care & Health department, based at the Civic Offices in Bexleyheath (DA6 7AT). This is a temporary day-rate role paying £117.26–£154.20 per day, starting 6 July 2026.

Reporting to a Senior Social Worker or Operational Manager, you will hold an individual caseload of adults and older people with physical disabilities, mental health needs, and/or learning disabilities, working within a strengths-based, rehabilitation-focused framework in accordance with the Care Act eligibility criteria.

Key responsibilities include conducting needs assessments and Assistive Technology assessments, formulating and implementing support plans, undertaking initial safeguarding enquiries, contributing to Continuing Health Care Checklists, and assessing Mental Capacity in line with the Mental Capacity Act. You will work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team alongside health colleagues and external partners.

The successful candidate will have recent paid or voluntary experience working with people with social care needs (learning disability, physical disability, mental health, older persons, or end-of-life care), experience in a multi-agency environment, and an NVQ Level II in Health and Social Care (or be working towards it). An understanding of the Mental Capacity Act, safeguarding principles, self-directed support, and the welfare benefits system is required. The ability to travel across a wide geographical area is essential.
