Job Description
Birmingham Children’s Trust is recruiting EHCP Officers to join its Designated Social Care Officer team based in Stirchley, Birmingham (B30 3BN). This is a temporary role paying £17.92–£23.23 per hour, starting 13 July 2026.
You will play a vital role in supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) by producing high-quality social care advice for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). The role focuses particularly on children without an allocated worker, ensuring equitable, timely, and child-centred support.
Key responsibilities include completing statutory social care advice for EHCPs, undertaking telephone assessments with families and professionals, managing a caseload of referrals against tight statutory deadlines, liaising with parents, carers, and partner agencies, signposting families to Early Help services, and identifying and responding to safeguarding concerns. Work is delivered in accordance with the SEND Code of Practice.
Ideal candidates will have experience in children’s social care, family support, or early help, with demonstrable ability to manage competing priorities, maintain accurate records, and communicate clearly in written, verbal, and telephone contexts. Strong IT and data input skills, knowledge of safeguarding and early help frameworks, and a proactive, strengths-based approach are essential. This is a non-qualified social care post — a formal social work qualification is not required.
