*Childrens Social Worker – Child Protection Team – #OR104790

June 9, 2026
£24 - £31 / hour

Job Description

Knowsley Borough Council is seeking experienced Childrens Social Workers on an agency basis to support its Child Protection service, based at Nutgrove Villa, Huyton, Merseyside (L36 6GA). The rate is £23.75–£31.15 per hour, with a start date of 1 July 2026.

This team operates a structured and genuinely sustainable working model. Social Workers undertake duty on a 1-in-8-week rota; during duty weeks, newly allocated cases are progressed to first hearing and then transferred on for proceedings — meaning you will not carry court work beyond that point, which is unusual within a CP setting. The remaining seven weeks are dedicated entirely to direct work with families, allowing time to complete assessments thoroughly, ensure children and families access the right support, and manage CIN and CP cases effectively.

The council offers manageable caseloads, strong senior management oversight, and significant day-to-day support via a dedicated partnership and improvement team. Pay is aligned with DfE rates at £39. Free parking, free tea and coffee, and a high standard of training from the workforce development team are also provided.

If you are a qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England and are looking for a well-supported, structured CP environment, please get in touch.
