Job Description

Knowsley Borough Council is seeking a Qualified Social Worker to join a structured and supportive service in Huyton, Merseyside. This is a locum opportunity paying £23.75–£31.15 per hour, available from 15 June 2026.

The team operates an innovative duty rota model — one week in every eight on duty, during which newly allocated cases are progressed up to first hearing before being transferred for proceedings. This focused approach ensures timely decision-making and effective intervention without overburdening individual caseloads.

The remaining seven weeks are dedicated to direct family work, giving Social Workers protected time to complete thorough assessments, ensure children and families access the right level of support, and safeguard and manage CIN and CP cases effectively. This balanced structure is designed to support both quality practice and staff wellbeing.

Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Experience across children in need, child protection, and court proceedings is desirable given the team’s model.
