Job Description

Lambeth Council is seeking a Customer Services Officer to join its specialist Customer Services team, based at 6 Brixton Hill, London SW2 1RW. Starting 18 May 2026, this is a temporary contract paying £143.87 per day (via Prism).

You will be the frontline face of the Council, handling enquiries across face-to-face, telephone, and digital channels. A key part of the role is resolving enquiries at first point of contact, escalating more complex cases where necessary, and undertaking floor walking within the customer centre to greet and assist residents. You will log and process enquiries accurately on council IT systems, make bookings and appointments, respond to customer correspondence, and carry out financial data reconciliation in line with council procedures.

The role requires flexibility, including some evening and weekend working and the ability to work across council locations throughout the borough. You will promote digital self-service channels, support service improvement initiatives, and maintain compliance with Data Protection requirements.

Essential requirements include demonstrable experience in a customer care or customer service environment, strong verbal and written communication skills, IT literacy including database systems, and experience of collaborative team working. Knowledge of local authority services is desirable.
