Job Description

Redbridge Council is seeking an experienced Principal Social Worker / Head of Service on an interim basis, based at Lynton House, Ilford (IG1 1NY). The rate is £376.96–£500.00 per day, with a start date of 26 May 2026.

This is a senior strategic leadership role within Adult Social Care. You will provide professional leadership, supervision, and quality assurance across frontline adult safeguarding practice, ensuring all casework is managed in line with statutory duties and the council’s obligations under adult social care legislation. You will embed the wellbeing principle across care and support functions, champion person-centred outcomes for adults and carers, and lead governance and assurance arrangements to safeguard adults at risk of abuse or harm.

Key responsibilities include: delivering the Principal Social Worker remit through practice development and a robust quality assurance framework; providing oversight of complex safeguarding risk management; supporting NQSWs, experienced practitioners, and student social workers; leading multi-agency safeguarding training and practice learning with Workforce Development colleagues; acting as the senior professional lead within the Senior Management Team; and representing Redbridge Council at the Redbridge Safeguarding Adults Board (RSAB), regional and national PSW networks, and relevant boards including Community MARAC and the One Panel for Safeguarding Adult Reviews.

Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Substantial experience in adult safeguarding at a senior level is essential. Apply now to express your interest.
