Adults Head of Service – Adult Social Care – #OR101984

May 11, 2026
£377 - £500 / day

Job Description

Redbridge Council is seeking an experienced Head of Service for its Adult Social Care function, based at Lynton House, Ilford (IG1 1NY). This is an interim day-rate engagement paying £376.96–£500.00 per day, commencing 26 May 2026.

This is a senior strategic and operational leadership role combining the Principal Social Worker remit with overarching responsibility for quality assurance, professional practice development, and safeguarding governance across Adult Social Care.

Key responsibilities include: providing professional leadership, supervision, and guidance to frontline adult social care practitioners; overseeing statutory compliance with adult social care and carers’ legislation; embedding the wellbeing principle across all care and support functions; and leading the Council’s governance and assurance arrangements to safeguard adults with care and support needs.

The postholder will act as senior professional lead within the Senior Management Team, ensuring frontline practitioner voices inform strategic decision-making. They will represent Redbridge Council on Quality Assurance and PSW-related boards, at regional and national peer networks, and will provide support to the Redbridge Safeguarding Adults Board (RSAB), including oversight of Self-Neglect and Hoarding Protocols, Safeguarding Adult Reviews (SAR) via the ‘One Panel’, and Community MARAC.

The role also carries responsibility for workforce development: supporting NQSWs, experienced practitioners, and students, and collaborating with Workforce Development colleagues on multi-agency safeguarding training and practice learning.

Candidates must be qualified social workers registered with Social Work England, with substantial experience in adult social care leadership and a strong track record in quality assurance and safeguarding governance at a senior level.
