Job Description

An exciting opportunity for a highly skilled Advanced Practitioner to join Newcastle City Council’s Reunification Team within Children in Care services. Based at Westgate Community College, NE4 9LU, this is a non-caseholding locum role paying £34.45 per hour, available from 17 May 2026.

Working within a specialist reunification function, you will complete and oversee a range of complex assessments for children and families where reunification is being considered or where care orders may no longer be appropriate. Assessments include parenting assessments, placement with parents assessments, capacity to protect assessments, sibling attachment assessments, special guardianship assessments, and other bespoke assessments as required. You will also assist with the preparation of court work and the discharge of care orders, preparing high-quality reports and giving evidence in court.

Alongside your assessment responsibilities, you will mentor and support social workers across the team, helping to build confidence and consistency in practice. This is a genuine opportunity to influence service development and shape evidence-based practice at a strategic level.

Candidates must be qualified social workers registered with Social Work England, with extensive experience in complex assessments, care proceedings, and court work, and a proven ability to assess and manage risk effectively.
