Childrens Team Manager – Family Safeguarding Team – #OR101473

May 8, 2026
£32 - £44 / hour

Job Description

Somerset Council is seeking an experienced Childrens Team Manager to join one of its Family Safeguarding Teams, based in Yeovil. This is an initial 3-month cover post starting 26 May 2026, covering a period of sickness absence, paying between £31.70 and £44.00 per hour via Prism.

You will lead a team of six social workers, providing regular supervision, scrutiny, and oversight of the children and families in their caseloads. Key responsibilities include chairing strategy discussions, PLO meetings, and permanency planning meetings, as well as supporting social workers in court hearings. You will make sound decisions regarding need and risk, escalating appropriately and working within correct policy, procedure, and legislation.

Somerset’s Family Safeguarding Teams operate a holistic, whole-family model, with social workers working alongside substance misuse, mental health, and domestic abuse practitioners to provide wrap-around support. The approach is firmly rooted in relationship-based practice.

The team is well-established, fully staffed, and benefits from a low turnover relative to the national picture. You will join a permanent, supportive group of managers and predominantly permanent social workers.

Candidates must have proven experience in a child safeguarding management role, strong report-writing and analytical skills, and be comfortable working primarily from the Yeovil office. A full driving licence and access to a car are essential. You must be within easy commuting distance of Yeovil (BA20 2HT).
