May 6, 2026
£24 - £31 / hour

Job Description

Are you a qualified Social Worker with a passion for supporting vulnerable young people through some of the most complex and critical stages of their lives? Knowsley’s Looked After Service is seeking a dedicated Children’s Social Worker to join their Young Persons Team (14–18), based in Huyton, Merseyside.

This is a demanding but rewarding role at the heart of children’s social care. You will hold a caseload of looked-after young people aged 14–18, many of whom face significant contextual safeguarding risks including exploitation, missing episodes, offending behaviour, and mental health concerns. Your relational practice approach will be central to everything you do — building consistent, trusting relationships with young people who may be disengaged, trauma-affected, or resistant to services.

Key responsibilities include developing and reviewing robust care plans, leading on dynamic risk management and safety planning, undertaking meaningful direct work to promote resilience and independence, and preparing analytical reports for reviews and court. You will lead on pathway planning for young people approaching adulthood, liaising closely with Leaving Care services and a wide range of multi-agency partners including education, health, police, and youth justice.

Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Experience working with adolescents in complex, high-risk contexts is essential, alongside a strong grounding in contextual safeguarding, trauma-informed practice, and statutory compliance. The rate is £23.75–£31.15 per hour.

If you are resilient, reflective, and committed to making a real difference for young people transitioning towards adulthood, we want to hear from you. Apply now or contact us to find out more.
