Team Manager – Duty and Assessment Service – #000AFB0E1

April 23, 2026
£42 - £42 / hour

Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and dynamic Team Manager to lead one of Wigan Council’s Duty Teams within their Children’s Duty and Assessment Service, based in Wigan town centre at a rate of £42 per hour.

This is a fast-paced, high-impact role at the heart of children’s social care. As Team Manager, you will work closely with five existing Duty Teams to drive good practice, uphold rigorous safeguarding standards, and ensure children and families receive the right support at the right time. The Duty Service undertakes initial Children and Family assessments, managing cases of varying complexity. Key transfer points include the initial child protection case conference, the first CLA review, the first PLO meeting, and the third Child in Need meeting.

You will support and supervise a team of social workers handling complex, high-risk cases, embedding high-quality practice across the service. A strong working knowledge of legislative frameworks and legal proceedings is essential, as is the ability to work in genuine partnership with children, young people, and families to promote positive outcomes.

The ideal candidate will be a qualified and registered social worker with substantial post-qualifying experience in a children’s statutory setting, and a proven track record of management or supervision. You will be innovative, accountable, and committed to values-led leadership.

Wigan Council places great value on its workforce, offering a supportive and progressive working environment where managers are listened to and empowered to challenge practice positively. This role runs from May to August 2026.
