£269 - £375 / day

Job Description

An excellent interim opportunity has arisen for an experienced Building Safety Manager to join Southwark Council’s Building Safety Team, based at 160 Tooley Street, London SE1. This is a pivotal role supporting the delivery of the Private Sector Building Safety Programme, working in close collaboration with internal enforcement officers to identify and address unsafe cladding and fire safety defects across high and medium-rise private residential buildings within the borough.

Working in partnership with the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), you will be at the forefront of safeguarding residents and driving remediation progress. The role involves a hybrid working pattern of three days on-site undertaking building inspections and two days in the office for reporting and administrative tasks.

Key responsibilities include: conducting desktop reviews of privately owned high and medium-rise residential buildings; developing risk-based inspection programmes; collecting and reviewing external wall systems (EWS) data and FRAEW reports; categorising buildings by risk level; engaging with building proprietors regarding cladding materials, interim fire safety measures, and remediation funding; reviewing Building Safety Fund and Cladding Safety Scheme data; and liaising with the local Fire and Rescue Service and MHCLG.

Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Building Surveying or a related field and have a minimum of five years’ experience in Building Safety, Fire Safety, or Building Surveying. Experience of HHSRS surveys is required, along with sound knowledge of relevant legislation including the Building Safety Act 2022, Building Regulations 2010, Housing Act 2004, and the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
