Qualified Agency Social Worker (Children’s or Adults’ Services)

Location: North East England (Assignments across Newcastle, Durham, Sunderland, Gateshead, Teesside & Northumberland)

Pay Rate: Competitive Hourly Rates (Umbrella) – Inside IR35 Employment Type: Agency Contract (Locum)

Role Overview

Are you a dedicated Social Worker looking to make a tangible difference in the North East? We are currently recruiting experienced locum professionals for both Children’s Services (including Assessment, Child Protection, and Looked After Children) and Adults’ Services (including Personalisation, Mental Health, and Hospital Discharge) across all North East Local Authorities.

Whether you are supporting families through the “Signs of Safety” model or helping adults maintain independence through strength-based practice, you will be joining teams known for their resilience and commitment to social justice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting comprehensive assessments and managing complex, high-priority caseloads.

  • Developing, implementing, and reviewing person-centered support plans and safety interventions.

  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary partners, including Northumbria or Durham Constabulary, NHS trusts, and local schools.

  • Maintaining accurate, up-to-date records using systems such as Liquid Logic or Mosaic.

  • Advocating for the rights and safety of vulnerable individuals within the North East community.


⚠️ Essential Requirements

To be considered for these agency placements, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Social Work England (SWE) Registration: You must have an active and clear registration with no restrictions.

  • Social Work Qualification: An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Social Work (BA, BSc, MA, MSc, or DipSW).

  • Enhanced DBS: A valid, enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (being on the Update Service is highly preferred for immediate starts).

  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years post-qualifying experience (completion of ASYE is essential).

  • Right to Work: Valid documentation to work within the UK.
