This post is to work within the Mental Health Community Social Care Team in Dudley. We require temporary agency cover pending service redesign
Purpose of the Job
To provide professional leadership to a team of social workers and others to ensure that the service provided is effective and is delivering positive outcomes.
To lead and develop behaviour and practice of team members and others to ensure high quality and effective social work practice.
To facilitate collaboration with people who use services, their carers and families and a range of professionals of disparate organisation.
- To meet the requirements of the Professional Regulatory Body.
- Maintain a well developed understanding and knowledge relevant to your area of practice, using that knowledge to underpin decision making.
- Use critical reflective skills in management practice and supervision in line with Dudley’s Supervision Policy.
- Provide professional social work opinion based on clear rationale and advanced professional knowledge.
- Be responsible for the use of workload management tools, using workload data to inform the organisations workload and risk management approaches.
- Support staff to maintain professional/personal boundaries.
- Contribute to the development of policies and procedures that result in better outcomes.
- Promote a partnership approach to working with individuals, communities, families and carers.
- Promote positive approaches to diversity, providing guidance and challenge as appropriate.
- Monitor and review practice to ensure application of principles of social justice, inclusion and equality in decision making.
- Ensure practice is compliant with law.
- Be able to gather, analyse and review complex and /or contradictory information quickly and effectively, using it to reach informed professional decisions.
- Provide and maintain expertise in specialist assessments and interventions as appropriate.
- Manage organisational change.
- Be able to work with and contain the anxiety of others in relation to risk and complex situations.
- Maintain an awareness of changes in national and local contexts and their impact on practice.
- Represent the Directorate as required and to deputise for the Team Manager.
- Participate in the recruitment, selection and performance management of staff.
- Contribute to the Borough Major Emergency Plan as a rest centre manager.
- Investigate complaints.
- Comply with the Councils Financial Regulations and Standing Orders.
In addition to the responsibilities listed above all employees must be flexible in their approach and undertake other duties commensurate with their grade.
- Manage the performance and practice quality of a designated team.
- Undertake delegated budgetary responsibilities as determined by the Team Manager/Head of Service.
- Contribute to the development of practice, policies and procedures across the Directorate.
- Promote innovation in practice and be an exemplar of best practice across all tiers of the workforce.
- Be responsible for adhering to legislative requirements and Council Policies and Procedures.
- Have responsibility for the professional development of the team members by developing an environment that promotes learning and practice development.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Establish and maintain a safe practice environment.

- Participate in personal performance review and development, undertaking training programmes as appropriate.
- Oversee and lead safeguarding investigations, chairing case conferences and strategy meetings as appropriate.

You must have:
- A professional qualification in social work and experience of working with Adults
- Social Work England registration or Social Care Wales registration for North Wales.
- Post qualified experience.
- Enhanced DBS/Update service.
- References required for the last 5 years of employment.
