Early Help Team Leader Must have management experience to manage the team of Family Support Workers.To work with a caseload of complex families who require a multi-agency approach to provide comprehensive, pro-active and intensive support packages which promote, strengthen and develop the potential of families enabling them to live successfully in their community. Use the Early Help Assessment and Plan to work in partnership with families and other agencies to identify the worries and strengths which are having an impact on the whole family. As a result completing the Early Help Assessment, develop, co-ordinate and where appropriate directly lead (lead professional) on working with children, young people and their families as part of their Early Help plan. Working with families using the signs of safety model, actively seek to empower families to make positive sustained changes. Work as part of the team responding to the Early Help and Troubled Families Programme including active participation in group supervision sessions, professional development and wider programme meetings.

It is essential that the post holder has:

· A Degree in Social Work or other relevant professionals qulification equivalent relevant NVQ Level 5 or Diploma in Youth and Community Work or Early Years and Childcare.

· Evidence of Continuing Professional Development.


It is essential that the post holder has:

· A commitment to anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive practice and a demonstrable understanding of both.

· Practice that is demonstrably child focused outward looking and outcome focused approach and evidence based.

· The ability to travel throughout the County.

· Willingness to undertake duties outside normal office hours, as required.


It is essential that the post holder has the following skills and abilities:

· Able to manage a staff team who are working with complex families

· Have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to establish positive relationships with staff at all levels that generate confidence respect and trust and in addition the ability to handle potential hostile, emotive atmospheres and environments and to act discreetly as appropriate

· Have a Specialist knowledge of the Children Act (1989 and 2004) including its key principles and application, Childcare Act 2006,

· To have a detailed knowledge of front line Family Support practice dealing with the most complex of cases.

· Specialist Knowledge of child development and family dynamics.

· Substantial knowledge of safeguarding procedures, guidelines and responsibilities.

· Specialist Knowledge of special needs arising from, for example, disability, illness, substance abuse, domestic violence.

· Ability to function at a high level of autonomy.
