Team Leader of Learning Disabilities Care Home in Bromsgrove

Team Leader position in a small LD Care Home, 5 days a week including week end and OOHs.


Purpose of job:

• Assisting the Registered Manager in the management and administration of the Service and assuming responsibility for the Service in the absence of the Registered Manager.

Main Activities & Responsibilities:

• Promote an environment conducive to a high standard of care and support in which those who use the service can participate, according to their capacity and wishes, to achieve reasonable independence.

• To be prepared to take overall responsibility for aspects of the life of the service according to the individual skills and abilities of the post holder and at the request of the Registered Manager.

• To be involved in the recruitment of staff as required.


• To assist the Registered Manager with the management and support of staff through, for example:

~ participation and leading staff meetings

~ individual supervision sessions

~ training programmes to enable staff to develop and practise their skills for the benefit and well-being of the people using the service.

• To co-operate with people who share the responsibility for the well-being of the people using the service:

I. Relatives and other significant people in the lives of people using the service

ii. Colleagues within the department.

iii. Staff from other departments and agencies.

iv. Members of other professions


• To carry out assessment of individuals in the community, where residential/replacement care is being considered, in co-operation with social workers and other professionals.

• To assist in the formation of natural links with the community including the use of voluntary help.

• To assist in the establishment and maintenance of a review system in accordance with departmental policy and practice as set out in the Departmental Manual of Procedures.

• To be aware of the changing and developing role of residential care within the total range of Adult Services provision.

• In accordance with departmental policy to attend relevant training courses and staff development programmes when these are made available and recommended by Senior/Training Officers

• When appropriately qualified to be involved in student supervision including placements from professional training courses and staff attending Vocational and In-Service courses of training.

• To assist in the provision of an adequate level of health care and in the administration and safe-keeping of drugs and medicines.

• To familiarise him/herself with all the administrative and management aspects of the establishment as set out in the Departmental Manual of Procedures.

• To carry out delegated responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act including the administration of fire regulations and procedures.

• Participating in research, forward planning and review of policy and practice as required by senior staff.

Generic Accountabilities:

· To maintain personal and professional development to meet the changing demands of the job, participate in appropriate training activities and encourage and support staff in their development and training

· To undertake other such duties, training and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required and which are consistent with the general level of responsibility of this job

· To undertake health and safety duties commensurate with the job and/or as detailed in the Directorate’s Health and Safety Policy

· The nature of the work requires duties to be undertaken which will involve lifting carrying and moving for which appropriate training will be provided. The post holder must be able to physically deliver these

· Working with some vulnerable children, young people and adults can, at times, be emotionally challenging for which appropriate support will be provided through management supervision. The post holder must be able to deal with such mental demands.

· This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and / previously met the definition of Regulated Activity (as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006) and is therefore subject to an enhanced Criminal Records Check (Via the Disclosure Barring Service, DBS) (as defined by the Police Act).

· This post meets Regulated Activity (as defined by the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012) and is subject to an enhanced Criminal Records Check (Via the Disclosure Barring Service, DBS) and the relevant children and/ adults barred list(s) checks.


EXPERIENCE:

It is essential that the post holder has:

• Considerable experience of providing support to adults with disabilities (paid or voluntary)

• Management/supervisory experience, including experience of delivering formal supervision to staff

• Significant experience of monitoring service delivery

• Significant experience of assessment and person centred care planning

• Significant experience of Risk Management and Health and Safety issues and their management

It is desirable that the post holder has:

  • Experience working in a Residential or Replacement Care setting
  • Experience of administrating and safe handling of medication

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

It is essential that the post holder has:

• Knowledge of budgetary practices

• In-depth knowledge and understanding of CQC and relevant care legislation

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both oral and written, at all levels and with all stakeholders

• Proven ability to record information clearly and accurately

• Proven ability to follow Medication Processes in line with organisational Medication policies

• Proven ability to motivate yourself, staff and people using the service

• An in-depth understanding of the needs and rights of people with disabilities

• Proficient in the use of IT systems

• Excellent prioritisation and organisational skills

QUALIFICATIONS/TRAINING & DEVELOPMENT:

It is essential that the post holder has:

• Relevant Diploma/SVQ/NVQ Level 3

• Level 2 Medication certificate or to gain within 3 months of commencing employment.

It is desirable that the post holder has:

• Nursing Qualification – e.g. SEN or equivalent

• Diploma/NVQ Assessor

• IOSH (Managing Safely)/Health and Safety Level 2

• Moving and Handling Key Person qualification

• First Aid at Work

· An ability to be flexible in helping to meet the needs of the establishment
