Job Description

Team Leader: Keeping Families Together

Interim Role until end of April 2026 (whilst permanent recruitment is underway)

We are looking to recruit a passionate and committed Team Leader to provide interim leadership for our Keeping Families Together service within Bury Children’s Social Care and Family Help. This short‑term role will provide essential stability and leadership until the end of April 2026, while we recruit to the permanent Team Leader position.

Keeping Families Together focusses on providing short‑term, intensive support to children, young people and families who are experiencing multiple and complex issues. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to delivering positive outcomes that make a real difference to children, young people and families.

As Team Leader, you will have direct responsibility for managing members of the Keeping Families Together team. You will offer high support and high challenge, ensuring high‑quality, impactful intervention is provided to the right families at the right time, leading to sustainable improved outcomes.

The team supports families where children and young people may be:

  • Likely to require accommodation or becoming looked after by the local authority without intensive support.

  • Living with connected carers where the arrangement is fragile and at risk of breakdown.

  • Undergoing a reunification plan requiring intensive support.

  • In acute distress with a risk of family breakdown without immediate intervention.

The team works with children and young people aged 8–18 and their families, delivering time‑limited interventions using a trauma‑informed, relationship‑based practice model. Building strong relationships will be central to promoting long‑term sustainable change. The team will also engage wider support networks to build resilience and empower families to manage challenges without ongoing professional involvement.

Working arrangements

The team works flexibly around families’ needs, providing planned and bespoke intervention. Staff work their core 37 hours flexibly between 7am and 8pm, Monday to Friday, and take part in a Saturday rota (9am–5pm) with a weekday off in lieu and enhanced payment.

The service is borough-wide but based at 3 Knowsley Place / Town Hall, Bury.

Normal working hours are 37 per week in line with the usual business week, although some rota-based working may be required depending on service needs.
