JOB PURPOSE
The organising, advising and the chairing of statutory reviews of Children in Care and Children subject to child protection plans. Monitoring Local Authority implementation of all plans for looked after children and children subject to child protection plans and ensures that statutory safeguarding and looked after systems are effectively implemented. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
1 Chair cared for children’s (LAC) reviews or CP conference meetings (depending on the specialist role), attend and chair other meeting in conjunction with the review of a child’s case and chair other related meetings in line with the service needs within the Safeguarding Unit. 2 Monitor Local Authority’s performance as corporate parent in relation to cared for children (CLA) or those subject to a child protection plan by monitoring the appropriateness and implementation of plans, checking that the agreed actions are being implemented and holding the local authority to account if it fails to implement agreed actions. 3 Decide what actions are necessary to meet the child’s needs and to endorse the care plan. Make recommendations towards achievement whilst ensuring that the child’s views are understood and taken into account. 4 Bring to the attention of senior management any failure to review cases, meet timescales or examples of poor practice, using formal or informal channels for resolution of issues or complaints and, in extreme circumstances, the court process. 5 Contribute to the improvement of Local Authority’s services for cared for children or those subject to a child protection plan by recognising and reporting on good practice by individuals and teams. 6 Work or liaise with partners, other agencies, service users and carers to ensure the co-ordination and delivery of services which comply with relevant legislation, best practice and promote user centred services. 7 Lead and participate in local and authority wide service developments including audits, planning, control, monitoring, review and evaluation activities to ensure continuous improvements in service delivery. 8 Ensure the full and correct use of all information systems to provide relevant information to meet authority, service and statutory requirements, including the development and implementation of recording systems to monitor and evaluate work. February 2015 9 Acknowledge formal and informal complaints made by or on behalf of service users through application of the Council’s complaints procedures and monitor whether a speedy resolution and the application of appropriate learning to professional practice has taken place.
