We are seeking to recruit an Approved Mental Health Professional to work at our weekday service at Salford AMHP Hub, Meadowbrook Unit, Salford Royal site. This service is based within Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust though is operationally managed by Adult Social Care, Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust.

The postholder will perform the statutory functions of an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP). They will consider requests for MHA assessments in relation to hospital admission, coordinate required assessments, determine whether detention under the Act is necessary / proportionate and identify whether there are other less restrictive options available. There will be additional responsibilities in relation to assessments for Community Treatment Orders (CTO) and Guardianship (s.7 MHA) as well as assessment for Mental Health Crisis Breathing Space. There will be access to daily support from the AMHP Manager on duty and legal advice (as needed) will be made available from shared legal services at Manchester City Council.

The successful applicant will work in conjunction with our two full time AMHPs and other AMHPs contributing to the rota. Supervision will be provided on a regular basis. There will also be relevant training made available in accordance with the statutory regulations.

We would be interested in applicants who are able to work 1-3 days per week and can commence as soon as possible. We are able to authorise AMHPs approved by another local authority to work for Salford and will also consider approving AMHPs.

You must have:

  • A professional qualification in social work
  • Social Work England registration.
  • Post qualified experience.
  • Enhanced DBS/Update service.
  • References required for the last 5 years of employment.
