Must have adult experience and safeguarding experience. Will not consider newly qualified/ASYE/children experience and must not have had recent significant career breaks.

Adult Safeguarding Team, Bury Council

Start date: 30th September 2024

Working pattern: Mon-Fri excluding bank holidays, 8.45am – 5pm

Location: 6 Knowsley Place, Angouleme Way, Bury, BL9 0EL.

Agile working policy – combination of office & home working, 2 days per week office/home visits minimum requirement. Hot desk arrangements with a clear desk policy. Candidates must be mindful when arranging to work from home that priority visits may occur at short notice and same day visits may be required.

Interviews: In person interviews will be arranged at the location above & facilitated by the Team Manager and Assistant Team Manager.

Role & Responsibilities:

  • Manage a dynamic and complex caseload, balancing risk versus choice and rights of the individual.
  • Undertake duty worker functions to screen new safeguarding concerns, manage immediate risk and make decisions in line with the Section 42 criteria.
  • Mental capacity and best interest work, including Court of Protection where the need arises.
  • Provide support to students, newly qualified and less experienced colleagues with their development and complex cases.
  • Work closely with colleagues in Commissioning and the Care Quality Commission to escalate poor quality and care of providers.
  • Work closely with partner agencies to co-ordinate a shared response to risk management including the Police and NHS.
  • Co-ordinate Section 42 enquiries in line with the Care Act 2014 and Making Safeguarding Personal where the focus is on achieving customers’ outcomes.
  • Support customers, colleagues and partner agencies to understand their role within safeguarding adults to promote 'Making Safeguarding Everybody's Business'.
  • Be committed to 'Continuing Professional Development' keeping up to date with policy and practice changes, training needs and SW England registration requirements.
  • Prepare for and participate in formal supervision every 4 weeks with your reporting manager.

Skills Required:

  • Only candidates with suitable adult safeguarding experience working with the Care Act 2014 will be considered for this position.
  • Have the ability to work autonomously, including autonomous decision making and responding to competing priorities and changing levels of risk.
  • Be proactive and have a positive attitude to change, be motivated and contribute to service development and transformation.
  • Be a real 'team player' and develop a shared understanding, shared risk management, peer support and mutual respect.
  • Practice in line with Social Work England standards and demonstrate meeting the required PCF and KSS competencies.
  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of a variety of legal frameworks and policy relevant to social work and safeguarding adults.
  • Complete timely case recordings that are clear, concise & evidence based and written to a professional standard.

  • A professional qualification in social work
  • Social Work England registration.
  • Post qualified experience.
  • Enhanced DBS/Update service.
  • References required for the last 5 years of employment.
