Please be aware this is a Long Term Temporary post to start ASAP.

An exciting opportunity has become available within Children in Care and Care Leavers for a Personal Advisor.

Personal Advisors are the last point of contact for our young people on their journey through care and into adulthood. As a personal advisor, you will start to work with young people from their 16th birthday, forming relationships and contributing to their pathway plan on their journey into independence.

The role involves working with a wide range of differing needs/complexities and supporting one of the most vulnerable groups within society, you must be able to work with partner agencies and be prepared to travel/respond to crisis as they arise. We work with young people up until their 21st birthday and the support can be extended up until their 25th birthday if this is necessary. Personal advisors can often be the only professional involved with a care leaver therefore, the role includes practical as well as emotional support along with providing advice and guidance or signposting to various support services. You will be responsible for reviewing the needs of 21+ and qualifying care leavers on an annual basis too.

In terms of the skills needed, you must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as the passion and enthusiasm to support young adults to make positive change and lead successful adult lives. An ability to engage the most hard to reach is also essential along with the ability to be persistent and consistent for those who find it hard to work with professionals/services.

Being a personal advisor is really rewarding and a very important role within a young person’s journey, this being the final stage of involvement for Children’s Services, our ethos is that we make this as positive and as impactful as we possibly can.

You will be part of a well-established and supportive team and will have regular supervision that offers reflection and direction.
