Job Description

The position is based in the Kinship carer team with Cheshire East fostering service. This is a busy team that undertakes fostering assessments and Special Guardianship Assessments of extended family members, for children who cannot live with their birth parents, on either a temporary or permanent basis. The role involves assessing applicants as well providing support and supervision to approved Kinship carers. There will also be opportunities to become involved in delivering training to potential foster carers.

We are looking for a worker who ideally has experience of working in a fostering service, and/or has experience of working in a local authority child protection team. You will need to have a good understanding of the circumstances that result in children becoming cared for by the local authority, and of the fostering processes associated with assessing and approving connected carers. The ability to undertake thorough assessments and to write clearly and fluently is important as these reports are usually filed within care proceedings. A thorough understanding of Fostering Regulations and National Minimum Standards is essential, as well as a good understanding of court processes. Experience of working with foster carers who are looking after traumatised children is important as well as an ability to provide sound, sensible advice and direction to foster carers. We are looking for someone who is a team player and can be flexible in accordance with the needs of the service.

At the present time, the post is be primarily home-based with ‘bubble days’ in the office, which is in Middlewich. Any home visits are subject to Covid risk assessments, and the postholder will have IT equipment that fully enables participation in meetings and ‘virtual’ home visits.

You must have:

  • A professional qualification in social work and experience of working with Children's
  • Social Work England registration.
  • Post qualified experience.
  • Enhanced DBS/Update service.
  • References required for the last 5 years of employment.
