Job Description
Please be aware this is a Long Term Temporary post to start ASAP.
Transitional safeguarding is an emerging area of social work practice that focuses on safeguarding young people, from adolescence into adulthood, recognising this period of transition will be experienced differently by young people at different times. It is about making sure young people, who may be at risk of exploitation, abuse, neglect or homelessness transitioning from children services have the support they need to keep themselves safe and as independent as possible. In Manchester we are developing our approach to transitional safeguarding and looking for someone to join us until March 2025 (possible extension but not guaranteed) to help us work differently with young people who are often falling through the gaps in services.
This role involves proactive outreach to engage and build trusting relationships with young people, especially those who may be reluctant to engage. The role is essential in ensuring young people are supported to make positive transitions to independence and reduce risks associated with vulnerabilities. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people facing challenging transitions, providing essential support and guidance at a critical stage of their development.
We are looking for someone with direct experience of working and engaging with vulnerable people to help them achieve the best possible outcomes in their life, and an understanding of some of the challenges faced by young people transitioning from child to adult services. They must be able to work effectively with other partners to coordinate a multi-agency approach. Experience working in a trauma-informed way will be essential for this role.
