Job Description


The role is covering two full time vacant social work posts in Bury’s Initial Response Team. The social worker will respond to any duty tasks and undertake assessments of needs for any children referred into the service within timescales set by management, not exceeding 45 days. The outcome should be: closure NFA or step down to EH, CIN, CP or CLA depending on the worries identified during the assessment stage.

Currently, there are four teams on the front door that cover duty on a weekly rota meaning duty is 1 in every 4 weeks. Social worker’s will pick up cases during this week and typically case loads vary between 15-25.

It is a full time essential car user post that requires social workers to complete visits to children and their families within 5 working days of allocation, unless specified otherwise. The role involves working within a multi-agency setting to ensure effective plans of support are devised to safeguard children and young people. It is a fast paced environment and therefore good experience is required within this field to be able to hit the ground running. Alongside this, we are looking for individuals who are good report writers and possess excellent organisational and communication skills.

At Bury, we currently have a hybrid model of working and whilst we recognise the need to offer staff flexibility especially since COVID-19, the expectation is that staff are office based during duty week. This is non-negotiable but flexibility will be offered on emergency bases. Although there is no free parking, the costs for this will be met by the LA and reimbursed via expenses at the end of each week. In house training is also available to all new staff in addition to that which has been commissioned to other organisations.

Social worker’s joining Bury will have access to regular supervision on a monthly basis and will be supported by a strong management team to ensure they feel supported in their role. AP’s are also on hand to assist with providing support around more complex pieces of work. You must have:

  • A professional qualification in social work and experience of working with Children's
  • Social Work England registration.
  • Post qualified experience.
  • Enhanced DBS/Update service.
  • References required for the last 5 years of employment.
