Family Time Officer – Supervised Contact Service – #5303625

Job Description

South Tyneside Council is seeking a Family Time Officer to join the Supervised Contact Service within Specialist Children’s Services. This is a temporary role based at the Town Hall, South Shields (NE33 2RL), running from 25 August to 27 November 2026.

Working alongside qualified social workers, you will provide direct support to children and families, facilitating and supervising family time sessions between children and their significant relatives. You will document observations and assessments from these sessions to inform care plans, and help manage visit schedules to ensure smooth running of procedures.

Key responsibilities include engaging directly with children and families to deliver targeted supportive work, facilitating and supervising contact sessions, supporting transport and family time arrangements, and developing positive working relationships with families, foster carers, and other professionals. Written reports produced in this role may be used within court proceedings, so strong report-writing skills are essential.

Candidates must have previous experience working with children and young people, excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, the ability to travel flexibly across the region, and a full UK driving licence. A commitment to equality and diversity is also required.
