Job Description

Birmingham Children’s Trust is recruiting an Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO) to join their established children’s services in Birmingham (B30). This is a locum engagement paying between £27.89 and £37.99 per hour via Prism, commencing 24 August 2026.

Note: the attached role description relates to a Senior Social Worker position in a Child Protection Enquiry Team undertaking Section 47 enquiries; however, the job record itself is posted as an Independent Reviewing Officer role. IRO duties typically involve chairing Looked After Children reviews, scrutinising care planning, and ensuring the rights and welfare of cared-for children are upheld in line with statutory requirements.

You will need to be a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England, with demonstrable experience in children’s services and the IRO function.
