Job Description
Northumberland County Council is seeking an experienced Childrens Social Worker to join Children’s Services on a hybrid working basis, based at County Hall, Morpeth (NE61 2EF). The role offers £27.56 per hour and is likely to be extended beyond the initial start date of August 2026.
You will carry a complex mixed caseload spanning Child in Need (CIN), Child Protection (CP), and Looked After Children (LAC), working directly with children, young people, and their families — including at points of crisis — to safeguard welfare and achieve positive outcomes. Responsibilities include completing Child and Family Assessments, devising and reviewing plans to address identified needs, assessing and managing risk using an evidence-based approach, and working across multi-agency partnerships.
You will promote family stability and reunification where safe to do so, apply locally agreed thresholds for stepping cases up or down, and maintain accurate records in line with statutory requirements. You will also offer coaching and mentoring to less experienced colleagues and contribute to practice improvement initiatives.
Applicants must hold a recognised social work qualification and be registered with Social Work England. Experience of Child Protection and Child and Family Assessment work is essential.
