Job Description
Somerset Council is seeking an experienced Adults Social Worker to join a dedicated Learning Disabilities Review Project, based in Taunton (TA1 4DY) on a hybrid basis — a minimum of two days per week in the office, with regular face-to-face visits across Somerset. The rate is £38.00 per hour umbrella (non-negotiable), with a start date of 24 August 2026.
This role sits within Adult Social Care and focuses on undertaking Care Act reviews and reassessments for adults with learning disabilities. You will complete face-to-face visits in people’s homes, supported living, residential settings and community environments, gathering and analysing evidence from multiple sources to produce audit-ready, evidence-based assessments and support plans.
Key responsibilities include determining eligibility under the Care Act, applying strengths-based and person-centred practice, identifying CHC considerations, contributing to multidisciplinary funding discussions, and challenging funding decisions where evidence supports it. A high level of professional judgement, analytical thinking and defensible decision-making is essential throughout.
Essential requirements: recognised Social Work qualification (BA or MA in Social Work or equivalent), current registration with Social Work England, significant post-qualifying Adult Social Care experience, and strong Learning Disability practice experience. Experience of Care Act reviews, CHC processes, and health/social care boundary work is required. A vehicle and ability to travel across Somerset are essential.
