Job Description

Somerset Council are seeking an experienced locum Social Worker to join the Children Looked After (CLA) Team covering the Sedgemoor area, based in Bridgwater (TA6 3AR). Rate: £28.41–£38.00 per hour. Start date: 24 August 2026.

This is a front-line corporate parenting role with a manageable caseload of children and young people aged 1–17 who are looked after by Somerset. You will build meaningful, relationship-based connections with children and young people, supporting effective care planning, attending family courts, and working with parents and wider family networks. The team benefits from Family Group Conferencing, a Reunification team, and regular reflective supervision from permanent, experienced Team Managers.

You will need experience in care proceedings, supporting children looked after, and adoption processes, along with Local Authority children and families experience. Court work is essential. Use of LiquidLogic Children’s System (LCS) is required or willingness to learn.

The role is hybrid — approximately 3 days in the Bridgwater office and the remainder home working. A full driving licence and access to your own vehicle are essential as travel across Somerset is required.
