Herefordshire Council is seeking a passionate, qualified Social Worker to join its Family Help locality team based in Leominster. Rated ‘Outstanding’ for leadership by Ofsted, this is an opportunity to be part of a restorative, reflective practice culture where senior managers are consistently available for guidance on complex cases.
You will hold and manage a complex caseload as Family Help Lead Practitioner, supporting children, young people, and families to achieve sustainable outcomes. Duties include assessing needs and risks, developing tailored Family Help Plans, chairing Child in Need meetings, core groups, and strategy discussions, contributing to safeguarding and child protection work in partnership with the Multi-Agency Child Protection Team (MACPT), and producing court reports and other high-quality written records.
The role operates within a statutory framework including the Children Act 1989, Children Act 2004, and Working Together 2026, aligned with the principles of the Families First Programme.
Candidates must hold a Social Work Degree, DipSW, CQSW or equivalent, be registered with Social Work England, and have a minimum of three years’ experience in statutory children and families social work. Strong skills in risk assessment, complex family dynamics, multi-agency working, and restorative practice are essential.
