June 17, 2026
£30 - £38 / hour

Job Description

Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Adults Advanced Practitioner to join its Adult Social Care service in Birkenhead. This is a senior practice-lead role carrying responsibility for the most complex, high-risk cases across the service area.

Reporting to the Senior Manager for Adult Social Care, you will manage a caseload where circumstances indicate high levels of risk and complexity, multiple safeguarding incidents, and critical decision-making including recourse to the Court of Protection. You will work alongside practitioners on particularly complex cases, chair Adult Protection operational meetings, and authorise and quality-assure reports, assessments, and court documentation.

Key responsibilities include leading on safeguarding and adult protection practice, developing peer review and learning initiatives, supporting complex court work, and contributing to service development on both an operational and strategic basis. You will work closely with Safeguarding Officers to drive best practice and deliver induction programmes for new staff.

Candidates must hold a recognised Social Work qualification (Degree in Social Work or DipSW) and be registered with Social Work England. Substantial post-qualification experience in a statutory health or social care setting is essential, along with up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation including mental capacity and safeguarding frameworks. Experience of chairing meetings, supervising others, and undertaking safeguarding investigations is required.

The role is based at 2 Alice Square, Birkenhead, CH41 2YA. The post attracts a rate of £29.76–£38.38 per hour (via Prism) with a start date of 24 August 2026. Agile working and flexibility across a five-from-seven rota are required.

To be considered, please apply with an up-to-date CV and evidence of Social Work England registration.
