Job Description
Wirral Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking an experienced Adults Social Worker to join its Adult Social Care service, based in Birkenhead (CH41 2YA). This is a locum role paying £27.98–£36.08 per hour via Prism, starting 29 June 2026.
You will be responsible for delivering health and social care functions for adults and carers across Wirral, embedding the Care Act 2014, strengths-based practice, and personalisation within the Personalisation and Inclusion Pathways. Working within a Multi-Disciplinary Team, you will carry out complex needs-led assessments, care and support planning, risk assessments, and reviews for adults with physical health, mental health, and older-people needs. The role includes supporting the MASH, MARAC, and MAPPA processes, undertaking Best Interest Assessments in relation to Deprivation of Liberties, submitting funding applications, and chairing complex multi-disciplinary meetings. You will also provide practice supervision to ASYE/newly qualified social workers and Care Navigators.
Candidates must hold a recognised social work qualification (Degree, DipSW or equivalent), be registered with Social Work England, and have demonstrable experience of statutory adults social work including assessment, safeguarding, and court work. Knowledge of the Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act, and Mental Health Act 1983 is essential. A Best Interest Assessor or Practice Educator qualification is desirable. Hybrid working is offered, with travel across the Wirral Borough required.
